We had our first good local view of a Kingfisher back in 2002 at Hengistbury head. Although we have seen occasional tuquoise flashes across various stretches of water since, we had to wait until January 2004 before one was good enough to perch on a post long enough to be captured on camera and added to this site.

It was five more years before we could improve on those first blurry pictures, courtesy of the female bird shown here which was busy fishing at Keyhaven in bright sunshine. A truly spectacular sight.
