In the Winter of 2004/2005 an unusually large number of Waxwings arrived in southern England. There were many reports of groups descending on berry-laden trees such as Rowan, which are often planted in semi-industrial or out of town shopping sites.
I didn't manage to see any of these groups in the immediate locality but, at the end of March, I got out of my car outside my daughter's house in the neighbouring county of Berkshire to find the Birch trees over the road full of them.
Unfortunately the birds seemed to prefer the topmost branches, so the pictures are not brilliant.
