These Wigeon were part of an enormous group out on the salt flats at Stanpit marsh. Apparently this bird does not breed in our part of the country, but comes down here to escape the northern Winters.

The pair pictured below were part of an equally large flock at Lymington seen in January 2004. These pictures will enlarge slightly.
The Lymington flock the following Winter seemed larger still. This group shows both male and female winter plumage well.
