The combination of sailing on one engine and negotiating the rough seas meant that we arrived in Dover some ten hours late in spite of having left Stavanger four hours ahead of the original schedule, so it was a great relief to awake on Saturday morning to beautiful sunshine and a calm sea - almost identical conditions to when we left one week earlier.
We had to hold off until the Constellation departed..
.. before finally pulling alongside. Since we had our own car parked at the terminal, we were not unduly inconvenienced by the delay. Other passengers though were less fortunate and we felt particularly sorry for the crew. They had looked after us brilliantly and cheerfully right to the end, knowing that there was another cohort of passengers already waiting for them on the dockside and the ship was to be turned around to set sail again (presumably still on one engine!) within the hour.
