Stavanger lies on the Lysefjord and, although it started life as a fishing port, it had seen much more development in recent years than our previous ports of call, due in no small way to the offshore oil industry.

Disembarking the Saga Pearl, we walked 50yards to board a launch for a boat trip deeper into the Lysefjord

As you can see from the threatening skies, the weather had by now started to turn.

The islands in the harbour were well developed, including a large marina, the first we had seen in Norway. The harbour entrance was busy with commuter traffic.

Some houses had grass on the roof, presumably for insulation.

Despite the inclement weather, we opted to remain on the open deck..

..with scenery like this, how could one make any other decision!

A narrow crevice in the rock, just wide enough for the boat to inch in..

..under a very unsettling overhang!

The Pulpit rock stretched up well into the clouds.

As we returned to Stavanger, the showers became less frequent, and we boarded the Saga Pearl one last time.
