Sealand Diary - February 2007

The wing is of fairly conventional construction and went together well. This picture shows the wing to fuselage fit being sorted out before completing the leading edge sheeting as shown on the main dairy page.

After that, the next priority was to get the nacelles built to the point where the motors could be temporarily mounted and I could get a first idea of where the battery might have to go in order to balance the model. The picture below shows the result.

The key conclusion from this was that the battery could be inserted through a top hatch in front of the wing, which was compatible with the plan to dangle the speed controllers from the wing and pull them forward into this area. First though, I sheeted in the nacelles with 1/16in balsa, and built the cowls in situ, again out of 1/16in sheet.

Yet more 1/16in sheeting work: Hatch, cabin top and battery box above, Wing fairings on the right.

The noseblock (17 laminations of 5mm balsa!) rounded off February's work, and is here being admired after a trip to Brooklands museum to find out more about colour schemes of the full size aircraft.
